Dr. Fabiana Magrinelli Dahmer

Flutist and Music Educator

Dr. Magrinelli is the Adjunct Flute Instructor at the University of Mobile and an Educator Instructor for the Mobile Symphony Orchestra Education Program. She also currently serves as the Adjunct Flute Professor at The University Southern Mississippi
 
She maintains a private flute studio in Hattiesburg, MS, and works as freelance for orchestras and other ensembles in the South.

 

A winner of the 2018 National Flute Association Graduate Research Competition, Dr. Magrinelli holds a Bachelor's Degree in Flute Performance from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul State (Brazil), a Master's Degree from Southeastern Louisiana University and a Doctor of Musical Arts from The University of Southern Mississippi. She also completed the performance certificate at the Pablo Komlós Conservatory of the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra, in Brazil, from 2003 to 2006.

She is also a certified music teacher (K-12) by the Mississippi Department of Education.

A Bit About Me

Magrinelli has a wide experience as an orchestral musician as well as a teacher. For almost ten years she served as Principal Flute at the University of Caxias do Sul Symphony Orchestra, where she developed a vast acquaintance with the orchestral repertoire. She also worked as Principal Flute for many years with the PUCRS Philharmonic Orchestra,  Novo Hamburgo Symphonic Band, and Caxias do Sul Wind Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, Dr. Magrinelli was a guest musician with many other orchestras in South Brazil such as the Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra, Unisinos University Symphony Orchestra, SESC Symphony Orchestra. In the United States, she has played with many orchestras such as Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra, Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, and Meridian Symphony Orchestra. Along with her career, Fabiana has also performed for renowned flutists such as Michel Debost, Kathleen Chastain, Felix Renggli, Michel Titt, Antônio Carrasqueira, Lucas Robatto, Sergio Barrenechea, among others. 

 

As a teacher, Dr. Magrinelli started to develop her career in Brazil, as a Flute Instructor of the University of Caxias do Sul where she worked for almost seven years. She was the School of Music Director of the University of Caxias do Sul from 2008 to 2009 and helped to implement the Music Program in that university. In the United States, Dr. Magrinelli was a Teaching Assistant at Southeastern Louisiana University from 2010 to 2011, and at The University of Southern Mississippi from 2011 to 2014, being awarded assistantships by both universities. In 2011, she was awarded "Outstanding Performance" at the Louisiana Flute Festival. In the Spring of 2016, Dr. Magrinelli served as Substitute Flute Instructor at William Carey University.

 

Currently, Dr. Magrinelli teaches a private studio in Hattiesburg, MS, and works as a freelance flutist in Mississippi area orchestras. She is also the Adjunct Flute Instructor at the University of Mobile and teaches at the Education Program of the Mobile Symphony Orchestra.

 

Her doctoral dissertation is focused on the influences of the French Flute School in Brazilian flute pedagogy and was recently selected as a winner of the 2018 Research Competition of the National Flute Association, for which she presented a lecture at the 2018 National Flute Convention in Orlando, FL.

 

Magrinelli has been living in the United States since 2010 with her husband  Dr. Samuel Dahmer, who is a double bass player.Besides music, she LOVES gardening!
